Make your own Orange and Cardamom Whisky

Growing up I was often told the story of the origin of Marmalade where a sea sick Mary Queen of Scots was fed a sweetened orange mixture to ease her sickness.

It still didn't make me much like the fruit.

Now a days we believe the Dundee Grocery story and that citrus fruit is some of the healthiest fruit to eat. As I get older I have more of an appreciation for oranges, mostly as a garnish in an Old Fashioned.

Orange and whisky goes together so well so why not try out the following whisky recipe.

  • 1 Orange
  • 3 Cardamom Pods
  • Whisky

  • Citrus zester or Grater
  • Suitable Container
  • Mortar and Pestle

  1. Zest or Grate the rind off the Orange and place in container.
  2. Crush the Cardamom Pods in the mortar and pestle or with the back of a knife or spoon and place in the container.
  3. Fill the container with Whisky.
  4. Store the Whisky in cool dark place for 2 months.

Orange & Cardomon Flavoured Whisky made.

This whisky will be ready for tasting on 13th January 2015.

The smell of the orange oil and cardomon was great so I'm really looking forward to this one.
